Sacuanjoche Waldorf Kindergarten Newsletter

Scholarship program Fundraiser:

On Friday, June 6th, Cafe Euro will host a "Casino Night" fundraiser to benefit the Sacuanjoche Waldorf Kindergarten scholarship program. There will be a silent auction which will include, local art, craft items and services such as a dinner for two at some of the nicest restaurants in Granada, a stay at a rural hotel on Mombacho, and a gift-card to the newly established AlmaZen yoga and massage center, etc. All the items in the auction have been donated by local artists, local businesses and NGOs as well as parents and friends of the Sacuanjoche Kindergarten. There will also be poker, blackjack and roulette, and a chance to play against the Nicaraguan chess champion (this title is held by a young Granadino, who donates his time to support the Kindergarten). Entrance costs 200 C$ and will include a cup of tokens to "gamble" with, a free drink and a dessert. All of the profit from the "Casino Night" will go toward the scholarship program at the Sacuanjoche Waldorf Kindergarten, affording enrolment opportunities to children from poor economic backgrounds. Any donations and support through participation in the Casino Night at Euro Cafe is most dearly appreciated.

Thank you all for your support and donations. Having had the fortunate help of many hands to distribute material about the Kindergarten, we had a busy inscription period in January, receiving many more applications for scholarships than we could possibly accommodate. However, if by midterm (before vacations in July and August) we have successfully raised enough funds to be able to offer more scholarships, we will review our waiting list from the beginning of the year. We would like to thank the families in Holland, the USA, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Denmark who provide sponsorships, making the sponsorship program possible. We are very happy that the Sacuanjoche Waldorf Kindergarten succeeds in having a balanced mix of children from a variety of economic backgrounds, first languages and cultures. We have received several donations of beautiful fabrics and materials as well as money from Canada. The kindergarden teachers decided to use the donated funds for an excursion to a small guesthouse run by rural women on the nearby Mombacho volcano that has been desired for some time.

Thank you for making this possible. Lastly we have received a donation from Sweden part of which we used to buy materials to maintain and improve safety of the kindergarten garden and play areas. Parents, teachers and children gathered on Saturday 17th of May to help with the maintenance and the aforementioned improvements.

Thanks to Jonathan Belcher who helped us update and improve our English and Spanish webpages as well as create this newsletter/blog that
you now enjoy.

Thank you very much.
